I do believe in some things that some religions advocate, but not because I believe the religions.
I think there are natural phenomena which various human founders of religions misunderstood,
but for which they came up with what seemed to them realistic explanations but which were
based essentially on superstitious ideas. I mean some of the phenomena are real but the religious
explanations came about because explanations were felt necessary and the understanding at that
time was not yet complete or correct. Prayer is one of these.
The important thing is to be sure that you understand who you are talking to when you are praying.
Is it the creator of everything that exists as described in the Bible? I would never pray to such an
entity for anything. But if it is that excellent aspect of the human self which abides everlastingly
within each of us, and which is able to communicate with others of our kind with or without our
conscious involvement, then that can work very well. But I don't think that is religious or even
spiritual. It is a natural phenomenon that has long been misunderstood and lied about for a very long
time.
